Just gave m1k3 a handjob in response to his craigslist ad and...... HE GAVE ME A FREE BIKE!
Right now on Columbia and Baker st off N. Main is a house with around 20 bikes in the front yard for sale. That place was like a watermelon buffet at a liquor store

I rolled by pretty slow looked like some decent bmx bikes and a few mountain bikes. I hit up the bank to come back but got caught up in sum other bidnezz
had to drive across the pigion creek as it was the only walmart that had them left, westside said they received 10 of them and sold out in 5 minutes?  Thanks for the headsup Dan.  BTW I still need a decent MTB!

You can have it any color you want, as long as it is black~!
Oh god, that thing already comes partially pre-hipstered with "high profile color wheels"

Down with the hipster fixies.

Some of those hipster bikes look really uncomfortable.

I ended up going out to Dan's Comp and they gave me an estimate of over $100 to fix Mike's bike. I was also informed it's a girl's bike. That set my testosterone into a blind rage, and I knew I had to dispose of it immediately, because how could I ever be caught on anything that isn't manly???

So then I spent a little over $200 on a Giant Boulder mountain bike. So far so good. I feel it was a worthy investment, and the guy that helped me (Alan or Aaron, can't remember) was a cool enough dude, and seemed to know his stuff.

Here is a photo of my ballerness:

Yeah the pedals are plastic and feel kind of cheap. Can you recommend any?

Also which reflectors? I do bike a lot at night and I really don't want to get a ticket for lack thereof.
I can't remember having reflectors on a bike more than a few hours after buying it.   Reflectors are only required if riding on a highway at night.

Cheaper pedals like the Primo Tenderizers have worked great for me for years,  Nathan just got a sweet new set of platforms like them but much lighter.

Primos cost about $20,   slighty wider, lighter ones are going to run $50 - $80
If you mostly plan on riding on the road, I would leave the reflectors.  I'd even suggest getting a flashing red one for the rear. If it was off-road only, I'd take them off.  It's better to be not hit by a car than to be too cool for school.

Just pointing out, Downtown and sidewalks are far from the road.  If i ever get  hit by a car, they are hammered and would hit me with flashing HIDs on.

Not advocating being invisible on streets with no lighting or sidewalks.

I just got a set of these and I love them:

<omgimageleach>

They're about a half-inch wider than the Tenderizers and 1.5lbs lighter.   HAYYY

Big Up to Frank for the recommendation.

I understand both sides of this argument, but felt I should maybe point out one of my few near-death experiences took place underneath a street light on 2nd St while standing near a car with a bassboat paintjob. Hammered drivers downtown aren't exactly the most rare thing considering the only thing open at that time of night are bars patroned by students of the liberal arts. Leaving them on wouldn't exactly hurt anything. Besides, if someone encourages John to take other measures to be as visible as possible, he'll have that thing neon green and hot pink by Thursday.
No reflectors, if i get hit by a car its probably my fault for not paying enough attention.

BET.

I'm probably going to leave them just because I use my iPod a lot and I mostly ride at night after work when the drunks are out. I'm usually really careful about cars but I'd rather be a little bit safer than sorry.

I also like the red pedals, but not sure what size to buy. I guess I will ask about them when I take my bike in for it's 30 day inspection. (yeah I'm gonna take care of this bike)
Those Premium slim pedals are definitely great pedals. We're about to start selling them in a sealed plastic version, so they'll be 1/3 of the price and even lighter than the alloy ones. I'm rocking neon pink Odyssey plastics right now, but plan on trying the Premiums when we get them in.
